Shaban's artwork is inspired by the ancient civilizations of Iraq (Mesopotamia) and the Arab world. Her architectural background also greatly influences her artwork. Throughout the years, especially during her architectural studies, her style has evolved gradually from paintings depicting Iraqi and traditional landscapes to artworks illustrating symbolic abstract sceneries. The artist frequently makes use of mixed media appliqué, using various modeling pastes, gold leaves and textures to bring her paintings to life. A common motif in Zaineb's artwork is the contrast between the architecture of the cities and villages of yesterday and of today.
